HC Palmer, an assistant poetry editor at Narrative, was born in Kansas and served with the US Army’s First Infantry Division in Vietnam in 1965–1966 as a battalion surgeon. Before retiring, Palmer had a thriving practice specializing in internal and sports medicine, and he now works with veterans with moral injury and PTSD and directs a writing program in association with the Writers’ Place and the Kansas City Public Libraries. Palmer’s debut poetry collection is Feet of the Messenger (BkMk Press, 2017). He lives in Lenexa, Kansas, with his wife, Valerie.
Poet Laureate of Kansas (2017-2019), Kevin Rabas teaches at Emporia State University, where he leads the poetry and playwriting tracks and chairs the Department of English, Modern Languages, and Journalism. He has nine books, including Lisa’s Flying Electric Piano, a Kansas Notable Book and Nelson Poetry Book Award winner. Rabas is the winner of the Langston Hughes Award for Poetry, the Victor Contoski Poetry Award, the Jerome Johanning Playwriting Award, and the Salina New Voice Award.
