The Crystal Field Open Mic Scholarship Reading -- Theme of Regret
Crystal MacLean Field was an area poet, workshop leader, and teacher. She began a communiversity writing group that met once a month for about twenty years. She also helped establish the Kansas City Writing Series (later the Simpson House Reading Series), one of the first reading series in the greater Kansas City area that began in the 1970’s. In1987, she died of a heart attack unexpectedly. In 1988, a scholarship fund was set up for her at UMKC for a creative writing student. The annual Crystal Field Scholarship Reading supports that scholarship. All proceeds go to the scholarship, and it is a unique scholarship in that the primary donors are other writers. The reading is an Open Mic around a theme. This year’s theme is “Regret.” Anyone wanting to sign up to read can email Maryfrances Wagner at firstname.lastname@example.org Music by Jim Abel.
